COURSE CURRICULUM

The History and Politics (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) program is structured to provide a strong foundation in both disciplines while allowing flexibility and practical experience. The foundation year develops essential academic skills and introduces key themes such as decision making, fake news, authoritarianism, and global issues, helping students build confidence for university study. In Year 1, students gain core knowledge through modules covering European history, political systems, international relations, and critical thinking, alongside developing research and communication skills. Year 2 offers a wide range of optional modules, enabling students to explore topics such as revolutions, human rights, global governance, democracy, and political ideologies, while also focusing on employability and career development. Study abroad opportunities further enhance global understanding. Year 3 provides optional pathways for a full work placement or study abroad year, giving valuable professional or international experience. In the final year, students specialise in areas such as environmental history, global conflicts, political systems, and security studies, with options to complete a dissertation or public history project. Additional topics such as terrorism, media influence, and global challenges allow students to tailor their studies. Academic language support is available throughout for international students.
