COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) course offers a comprehensive four-year structure that builds creative, technical, and professional design skills. The foundation year introduces essential design principles, studio skills, and contexts, allowing students to explore various design specialisms while developing confidence through projects, portfolio creation, and exhibition work. In Year 1, students focus on core graphic design knowledge, including history, theory, and practical methodologies, alongside typographic skills such as form, composition, and layout. They also develop creative thinking and visual problem-solving through hands-on and experimental design projects. Year 2 deepens this knowledge by addressing contemporary design issues, social impact, and collaborative practices. Students engage in projects such as responsible branding and explore how design can influence society. Year 3 provides flexibility with optional opportunities including creative studio work, industry placements, or study abroad, allowing students to gain professional or international experience. In Year 4, the focus shifts to independent and future-oriented practice, with students completing self-initiated projects, exploring contemporary design challenges, and developing their professional identity. A specialist module on design for music further enhances creative exploration. Academic language support is available throughout for international students, and the course prepares graduates for diverse careers in the creative design industry.
