COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) at Northumbria offers a four-year program that combines creative exploration, technical skills, and professional development. The foundation year introduces students to design studio skills, design contexts, specialisms, and major projects, culminating in a portfolio and exhibition, providing a strong basis for further study. In Year 1, students develop core fashion skills and knowledge through modules on experimental processes, fashion practice, fashion culture, fashion image, and introduction to fashion practice, with optional language support for international and EU students. Year 2 builds on these foundations with modules on fashion theory, identity, concept, craftsmanship, collaborative projects, and professional practice, encouraging students to integrate design knowledge with practical application. Year 3 offers opportunities for real-world experience through optional creative studios, placements, or study abroad, allowing students to develop their professional skills and gain insight into the fashion industry. Year 4 focuses on advanced fashion design, including contemporary challenges, fashion concept research and development, collection realisation, and the creation of a professional fashion portfolio, while continuing to support language development for international and EU students. Throughout the program, students engage in hands-on practice, experimentation, and industry collaboration, equipping them with technical proficiency, creative vision, and professional readiness to pursue careers in fashion design, styling, curation, or related creative industries.
