COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion Communication (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) at Northumbria is a comprehensive four-year program designed to equip students with the creative, technical, and professional skills required for careers in fashion communication and the wider creative industries. The foundation year introduces students to design studio skills, design contexts, design specialisms, major projects, and portfolio development, building confidence, creativity, and practical knowledge. In Year 1, students explore experimental processes, fashion communication, styling and curation, brand promotion, content creation, and multimedia practice, with optional language support for international and EU students. Year 2 focuses on emerging issues in fashion, identity and concept development, advanced content creation, styling, brand promotion, and trend forecasting, integrating conceptual understanding with practical application. Year 3 offers opportunities for real-world experience through creative studios, professional placements, or study abroad, allowing students to refine skills, engage with the industry, and gain global perspectives. In Year 4, students undertake advanced projects including contemporary design challenges, a critical research project, live or competition briefs, and final major projects, culminating in a professional portfolio that demonstrates technical mastery, creative vision, and professional readiness. Throughout the program, students combine theoretical learning, practical workshops, multimedia production, and professional engagement, preparing them to succeed as innovative collaborators, communicators, and leaders in the global fashion sector.
