COURSE CURRICULUM

This program is structured across four years, combining the study of English Literature with the development of creative writing skills. The foundation year introduces key themes such as identity, communication, and research, while helping students build essential academic and creative abilities. In the first year, students establish a strong grounding in literary studies and creative practice through modules in poetry, storytelling, critical analysis, and gothic literature, alongside developing academic language skills. The second year expands both analytical and creative expertise, covering literary periods such as early modern and modernist works, while focusing on writing techniques like voice and structure, as well as practical skills such as preparing work for publication. Students also have the option to study abroad. The third year offers the opportunity to gain valuable real-world or international experience through an optional work placement or study abroad year. In the final year, students can tailor their studies through a wide range of optional modules exploring themes such as gothic fiction, gender, and contemporary literature, alongside advanced creative writing options including playwriting and audio storytelling. Students may complete either a dissertation or a major creative writing project, demonstrating independent research and creativity. Overall, the course develops strong analytical, creative, and communication skills for diverse career paths.
