COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital Design (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) is a four-year program that combines creative, technical, and research-based learning to prepare students for careers in the digital design industry. The Foundation Year introduces essential design practices through modules such as Design Studio Skills, Design Contexts, Design Specialisms, Major Design Project, and Design Portfolio and Exhibition, providing a solid base in practical skills and creative exploration. In Year 1, students build on this foundation with core modules including Experimental Processes, Visual Design Principles, Design for Screen, UX Design Principles and Practice, Code. Design. Make, and Personal Research Project 1, alongside academic language support for international and EU students, developing both creative and technical proficiency. Year 2 focuses on emerging technologies and applied research, covering Sound and Motion Principles, Data Visualisation, UX Research and Design Methods, Emerging Technologies, Interchange 2 – Emerging Issues and Practices, and Personal Research Project 2, enabling students to experiment with innovative design methods and tools. Year 3 offers optional opportunities for deeper professional experience through Creative Studio modules, work placements, or study abroad, allowing students to engage with industry and global perspectives. Year 4 culminates in advanced and applied projects with modules such as Interchange 3 – Contemporary Challenges and Design Futures, Design and Innovation, Research Project and Prototype, and the Final Major Project and Exhibition, supporting the creation of a professional portfolio and readiness for careers in digital design, UX/UI, data visualisation, and related creative industries.
