COURSE CURRICULUM

The Tourism and Events Management (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) at Northumbria University is a four-year program that combines academic study with practical and professional experience to prepare students for careers in tourism, events, and related sectors. The foundation year provides an introduction to essential business and management concepts, covering professional development, business environment and functions, business information management, entrepreneurship and innovation, responsible business, and a leadership and management project. This year supports students who do not meet standard entry requirements, helping them build confidence and establish a strong academic base. In the first year, students develop core skills in financial decision making, business analysis, professional practice preparation, marketing, and understanding the tourism and events sector, with academic language support available for international and EU students. The second year emphasizes applied learning and industry relevance through core modules in tourism, events, and society, creativity and innovation, marketing, event design and production, contemporary tourism management, and research skills, with the option to study abroad. In the final year, students focus on strategic, global, and professional perspectives, completing core modules in culture, tourism and eventful cities, strategic management and entrepreneurship, global challenges and tourism futures, and risk and crisis management, alongside optional projects such as management enquiry, dissertation, or consultancy. The program integrates theory, practice, and experiential learning to develop industry-ready graduates.
