COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary Education (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) program is structured over four years to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional experience required for a career in teaching. The Foundation Year introduces key concepts such as professional values, study skills, human development, and collaborative working, preparing students for degree-level study. In Year 1, students begin their core training with modules in curriculum studies, professional studies, and educational research, alongside their first school placement, allowing them to apply theory in practice. Year 2 builds on this foundation with more advanced curriculum studies, offering pathways focused on either ages 3–7 or 7–11, while continuing professional development and a second placement to deepen classroom experience. Students also expand their understanding of educational research and teaching methods. In the final year, students further specialise in their chosen age range, undertake a third placement, and complete an extended research enquiry project. Additional modules in professional and enhanced curriculum studies support the development of advanced teaching skills and reflective practice. Throughout the program, international and EU students may receive academic language support, ensuring effective communication and readiness for a teaching career.
