COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Architecture (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) at Northumbria University is structured to provide a progressive and studio-focused learning experience over four years, beginning with a foundation year for students who do not meet standard undergraduate entry requirements. In the foundation year, students develop core knowledge and skills in the context of the built environment, including building pathology, building use, architectural design and technology, construction management, and a final integrated project. This prepares them for further study by building understanding of the built environment, technical competencies, and practical problem-solving. In the first year of the main degree, students focus on introductory design projects, theory, and technology, developing fundamental skills in interior architecture through project-based learning, supported by academic language assistance for international and EU students. The second year emphasizes more complex studio projects and deeper exploration of theory and technology, allowing students to integrate design concepts with technical and contextual knowledge. In the final year, students undertake advanced interior architecture projects, building on their previous experience to develop sophisticated design solutions. Concurrent theory and technology modules enhance critical thinking and technical proficiency, while continued academic language support ensures accessibility for international learners.
