COURSE CURRICULUM

The History and Politics (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) program offers a comprehensive structure that combines historical knowledge with political analysis. The foundation year introduces key academic skills while exploring themes such as decision making, fake news, authoritarianism, and global encounters, helping students build confidence and a strong academic base. In Year 1, students develop core knowledge in both disciplines through modules on European history, political systems, international relations, and critical thinking, alongside gaining essential research skills. Year 2 provides greater flexibility, allowing students to choose from a wide range of optional modules covering topics such as revolutions, human rights, global governance, democracy, and political ideologies, while also focusing on employability and career development. Opportunities for study abroad further enhance the learning experience. In the final year, students specialise in diverse areas such as environmental history, social movements, conflict, security, and global politics. They can choose to complete a dissertation or public history project, demonstrating advanced research and analytical skills. Additional topics such as terrorism, media power, and global challenges allow students to tailor their studies to their interests. Academic language support is available throughout for international students, ensuring strong academic and communication development.
