COURSE CURRICULUM

The Tourism and Events Management BA (Hons) at Northumbria University offers a structured program designed to develop both academic knowledge and practical skills for a career in the dynamic tourism and events sectors. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in business and tourism through core modules in financial decision making, business analysis, marketing, tourism and events, business and society, and professional practice, with additional academic language support for international and EU students. The second year focuses on applied and experiential learning, covering creativity and innovation, tourism, events and society, marketing for tourism and events, event design, planning and production, contemporary tourism management, and research skills, while students also have the option to undertake a study abroad semester to gain international experience. The final year integrates advanced theoretical and strategic understanding with professional application, including core modules on culture, tourism and eventful cities, strategic management and entrepreneurship, global challenges and tourism futures, and risk and crisis management. Students can further enhance their expertise through optional projects such as management enquiry, dissertation, or undergraduate consultancy. Across all years, the program combines academic rigour with practical experience, preparing graduates to operate confidently and effectively in professional roles within tourism, events, hospitality, and related industries, while fostering problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills essential for the global marketplace.
