COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary Education BA (Hons) program is structured over three years to develop the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed for a successful teaching career. In Year 1, students are introduced to key areas such as curriculum studies, professional studies, and educational research, alongside their first school placement, which allows them to begin applying theory in real classroom settings. Enhanced curriculum modules further support subject knowledge and teaching techniques. Year 2 builds on this foundation, offering more advanced curriculum studies with pathways focused on either ages 3–7 or 7–11, while continuing professional development and a second placement to strengthen practical teaching skills. Students also deepen their understanding of educational research and enquiry. In the final year, students specialise further in their chosen age range, undertake a third placement, and complete an extended research enquiry project that develops independent thinking and critical analysis. Additional modules in professional and enhanced curriculum studies help refine teaching practice and prepare students for the classroom. Throughout the course, international and EU students may receive academic language support, ensuring effective communication and readiness for a professional teaching role.
