COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design BA (Hons) course is structured across three years to progressively develop creative, technical, and critical design skills. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in graphic design through modules covering design history, theory, and context, alongside practical learning in process, methodology, and visual problem-solving. They also develop essential typographic skills, focusing on form, composition, and layout, while engaging in experimental design practices. In Year 2, the course advances to more complex and socially relevant areas of design. Students explore contemporary design issues, the role of design in social change, and collaborative and experiential approaches. A major focus is placed on responsible branding, allowing students to apply their skills to real-world challenges while considering ethical and sustainable practices. In Year 3, the emphasis shifts to independent and future-focused design practice. Students undertake self-initiated projects, giving them the freedom to explore personal interests and develop a strong professional portfolio. They also examine contemporary challenges and future directions in design, along with specialized areas such as design for music. Throughout the course, academic language support is available for international students. Overall, the program equips students with the creative confidence, technical expertise, and critical thinking skills needed for careers in the graphic design industry.
