COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography BA (Hons) course is structured to build a strong foundation in human geography while developing practical, analytical, and research skills across three years. In Year 1, students are introduced to key geographical concepts, including human geography, physical environments, development, and data analysis, alongside fieldwork and an understanding of geographical ideas and practices. This year provides essential academic and practical skills for further study. In Year 2, the focus shifts more towards specialised areas of human geography, with core modules exploring political, social, and economic geographies, as well as research methods. Students can tailor their learning through optional modules such as urban planning, sustainability, GIS, and fieldwork opportunities in the UK or internationally, enhancing both technical and applied knowledge. In Year 3, students undertake a major dissertation, allowing them to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice. They can also select from a wide range of optional modules covering diverse themes such as global capitalism, cultural and social identities, urban environments, disasters, and media spaces. Throughout the course, academic language support is available for international students. Overall, the program equips graduates with critical thinking, research, and fieldwork skills relevant to careers in planning, policy, and development.
