COURSE CURRICULUM

The English Language BA (Hons) program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of linguistics while developing analytical and practical communication skills. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as English grammar, discourse analysis, and approaches to language study, alongside an introduction to linguistics and TESOL classrooms. This stage focuses on developing core knowledge of how language works and how it is used in different contexts. In the second year, students expand their understanding with topics including language and society, the history of English, and the psychology of language, as well as the sounds and structures of English. Optional opportunities such as study abroad, student tutoring, and TESOL classroom skills allow students to gain practical and international experience. In the final year, students specialise further by completing an English Language dissertation and selecting from a range of advanced modules, including cognitive linguistics, world Englishes, language variation, and language and social disadvantage. Throughout the program, academic language support is available for international students. Overall, the course combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, equipping graduates with valuable skills in analysis, communication, and research, and preparing them for careers in education, media, communication, and related fields.
