COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence offers a structured curriculum combining core courses, specialised pathways, and a dissertation to develop expertise at the intersection of philosophy and technology. Core courses include Mind and Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Data Ethics, Minds and Machines, and Values and Society, each providing 15 credits and forming the foundational understanding of philosophical and ethical issues related to AI. Students then choose two of four available pathways, worth 30 credits each, allowing them to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals. The Programming pathway focuses on practical technical skills, including Programming for Data Applications and Theory and Applications of Data Analytics. The Technology, AI, and Human Values pathway addresses ethical and societal implications of emerging technologies, with courses in Responsible Artificial Intelligence and Technology and Human Values. The Ethical Foundations pathway develops critical thinking and ethical reasoning through Political and Ethical Ideas Across History and Advanced Topics in Ethics and Political Theory. The Philosophical Foundations pathway deepens analytical skills and engagement with central philosophical questions through Rationality and Reasoning and Mind, Meaning, and Metaphysics. The program culminates in a dissertation, which may be either essay- or project-based, enabling students to conduct an in-depth investigation into a topic of their choice, integrating philosophical analysis with technical and ethical considerations, and preparing graduates for interdisciplinary careers or further academic study.
