COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Politics & International Relations degree is structured over three years to provide a comprehensive understanding of political systems, theory, and global affairs while allowing flexibility through elective courses. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge with courses such as Introduction to Politics & International Relations, Comparative Politics, Foundations of Western Political Thought, and International Relations in Practice, alongside four electives that broaden academic exposure. The second year develops analytical and theoretical skills, covering topics like Decolonising International Relations, The European Union in the World, and Political Arguments in Action. Students also select one additional Politics & International Relations course from options including British Government in Global Context, Political Ideologies, and Societies in Transition, complemented by four electives. There is an option to study abroad at Northeastern University in the USA, providing international perspective and experience. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics such as International Organisations and Security Studies, while choosing two additional Politics & International Relations courses from subjects like Sustainable Development, International Political Economy, Green Political Thought, and Contemporary Politics of Latin America and Spain. Two electives and a substantial Final Project integrate learning across disciplines, developing critical thinking, research, and analytical skills. Graduates are prepared for diverse careers in government, international institutions, policy analysis, risk management, journalism, and sustainable development.
