COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Data Science degree is structured over three years to build strong foundations in computational, analytical, and practical skills, while allowing flexibility through electives. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of the discipline with courses in Discrete Structures, Programming with Data, Intermediate Programming with Data, and Probability and Statistics, alongside four electives that provide opportunities to broaden their academic interests. The second year advances technical expertise with courses such as Advanced Programming with Data, Foundations of Data Science, Database Design, and Information Presentation and Visualisation. This stage also offers the option to study abroad at Northeastern University in the USA, adding an international perspective while continuing with four additional electives. The final year is focused on specialised, advanced areas, including Machine Learning and Data Mining I and II, and Large-Scale Information Storage and Retrieval, complemented by three electives to tailor the degree to individual goals. The program culminates in a final project that enables students to integrate and apply their learning to real-world challenges. By combining core data science training with flexibility, the degree equips graduates with technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and versatility for a wide range of career opportunities.
