COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) History degree is structured to provide both a strong foundation in global history and the flexibility to tailor studies through electives. In the first year, students explore broad historical perspectives with courses such as World History Until 1945, The World Since 1945, and Historians’ Craft, which introduces key research and analytical methods. They also study In the Shadow of the Tower: Crusade, Plague, and Persecution in the Middle Ages, a course that draws directly on the historic setting of the university’s campus, alongside four electives that broaden their academic scope. The second year builds on this foundation with courses like Public History and Heritage and London’s World War, offering students insight into how history is preserved, interpreted, and communicated. They also choose two further history courses from the University Courses list, ensuring exposure to diverse themes and regions, while four electives add academic breadth. Students may also opt to study abroad at Northeastern University in the USA, enriching their global perspective. The final year provides advanced study through four history courses selected from the University list, two electives, and a major Final Project in History. This progression develops research, critical thinking, and communication skills, preparing graduates for diverse careers.
