COURSE CURRICULUM

The Strength and Conditioning Science program provides a comprehensive approach to understanding the principles and practical applications of strength and conditioning. The Strength and Conditioning Science module covers physiological and biomechanical foundations crucial for designing effective training programs, focusing on strength, power development, training load monitoring, and periodization. Students will learn how to analyze fitness testing data to identify performance trends that can be used to inform coaches and athletes. The Performance Training and Corrective Exercise module focuses on developing practical skills to design and monitor strength and conditioning programs. This includes coaching techniques for strength, power exercises, speed, agility, and plyometrics, along with assessing and correcting muscle imbalances through exercise solutions. This module also helps students meet certification requirements for recognized bodies such as UKSCA, NSCA, and NASM. The Research Methods module enhances students’ ability to analyze training variables and fitness testing data, equipping them with the skills to provide coaches with a comprehensive overview of program effectiveness. The Work Placement module offers valuable hands-on experience, particularly for those not already working in sport and fitness, allowing them to gain practical experience designing and delivering training programs in professional settings such as rugby, football, and cricket. Finally, the Dissertation module allows students to specialize in a topic within strength and conditioning, providing an opportunity to contribute original research to the field, present at conferences, or share findings with coaching staff. Through this blend of theoretical learning and practical experience, students are prepared for careers in strength and conditioning, armed with the knowledge and skills to excel in coaching, program design, and research.
