COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Nutrition program offers a thorough blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for advancing in the field. The "Theory of Sport and Exercise Nutrition" module deepens students’ understanding of the physiological and biochemical responses to exercise. It includes critical analysis of testing procedures and the application of nutritional status assessment, focusing on macronutrients, micronutrients, and energy metabolism. This prepares students for certification with professional bodies like the UK Sports & Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr). The "Applied Sport and Exercise Nutrition" module focuses on the practical aspects of nutrition, helping students design and monitor individualized nutritional support programs to enhance athletic performance and recovery. Students explore how nutrition affects various stages of sport participation, from preparation to post-event recovery. This module also helps prepare students for the SENr certification.The "Professional Placement Module" provides real-world experience where students apply their knowledge in a professional setting. Through reflective practice and problem-solving approaches, students integrate theory with practice, enhancing their professional development. The "Research Methods" module offers a comprehensive review of research techniques in sport and exercise nutrition, equipping students with the skills to plan research proposals and critically evaluate existing studies. Students engage in interprofessional workshops to refine their research designs, addressing ethical, methodological, and philosophical considerations. Finally, the "Dissertation" module allows students to undertake independent research in their area of interest. With support from peers and a supervisor, students develop research skills, engage in data collection and analysis, and ultimately write a dissertation, providing them with a robust foundation for careers in sport and exercise nutrition.
