COURSE CURRICULUM
The "Social, Personality & Developmental" module focuses on primary and contemporary theories in three essential areas: social psychology, developmental psychology, and individual differences. It aims to deepen students' understanding of the biological, social, emotional, and cognitive processes throughout the lifespan, especially during infancy and childhood, when significant changes occur. The social psychology component explores interpersonal and intergroup processes, helping students grasp the social dimensions of human behavior. Additionally, the module delves into individual differences, considering theories such as humanistic development and social learning. The "Research: Practice and Reporting" module provides an opportunity for in-depth, independent study in a specific applied psychology area. It guides students through the application of empirical research principles and the presentation of findings in a written journal article, ensuring they adhere to academic conventions. In the "Research Methods" module, students acquire advanced skills in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. This module, aligned with British Psychological Society (BPS) standards, enhances students' ability to critically evaluate psychological research, design studies, and select appropriate statistical analyses. It prepares them for their dissertation and deepens their understanding of research ethics. "Research and Issues in Applied Psychology" encourages students to explore contemporary and traditional debates in applied psychology, covering ethical considerations and issues in areas like neuropsychology, infertility, sports, exercise, and literacy acquisition. Finally, the "Brain, Body and Mind" module offers an overview of biological and cognitive psychology, focusing on the biological basis of heritable traits and the nervous system's anatomy and physiology. Through psychophysiology lab sessions, students investigate central and peripheral nervous system variables, linking them to behavior and individual differences, and explore cognitive theories, pathology, and neuropsychological case studies.
