COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Cyber Security and Emerging Threats at Middlesex is structured around a series of compulsory modules that provide both theoretical foundations and practical expertise in the field. The Pen Testing module develops advanced skills in penetration testing and vulnerability assessment, while Programming, Systems, and Networks for Modern Computing builds essential knowledge of coding, system architecture, and networking concepts. Network Security Principles and Mechanisms explores key defensive strategies and technologies to protect against cyberattacks, complemented by Cybersecurity for Emerging Technologies, which focuses on the security challenges of AI, quantum computing, and autonomous systems. Cybersecurity Governance and Secure Development introduces students to frameworks for secure software design, compliance, and risk management, while Operating Systems for Secure Environments examines system-level security and administration. The Research Methods and Postgraduate Project module allows students to conduct independent research, applying academic knowledge to real-world cybersecurity challenges, fostering innovation and critical analysis. Additionally, Preparing for the Professional Placement equips students with the necessary skills to engage with industry opportunities. An optional Postgraduate Work Placement further enhances employability by providing hands-on professional experience.
