COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Topics in Computer Science module provides students with the opportunity to study two advanced topics from a range of designated options closely aligned with current research in the field. These short courses are taught by experienced scholars and are designed to prepare students for their dissertation projects by focusing on research methods and project planning. The module integrates these elements throughout the 24-week teaching period, supporting students' research and development activities across all modules.The Software Development module covers the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to documentation, maintenance, and quality assurance. Using object-oriented paradigms, students will develop software through team collaboration, version control, and testing. The module also emphasizes agile practices, such as test-driven development, planning, and refactoring, and includes experience with software modeling tools to enhance the development process.In the Blockchain Development module, students will design, develop, and implement a cryptocurrency prototype using blockchain technology. The course covers blockchain fundamentals, including the anatomy and types of blockchains, focusing on permissionless blockchains for cryptocurrency. Additionally, students will work on developing enterprise blockchain systems that do not require cryptocurrency or tokens, introducing them to permissioned blockchain technology used in business applications.The Cyber and Information Security module aims to equip students with essential skills to secure systems and data. Students will learn about cryptography, network protection, risk management, and advanced hacking techniques. The module also covers social engineering and psychological tactics used in cyberattacks, preparing students to identify and mitigate potential security threats.The Individual Project module offers students the chance to execute a research project, such as a proof of concept or empirical study, in the field of computer science. Students will apply learned theories and techniques, critically analyze research results, and develop strong communication skills to present their findings effectively, both in written and oral formats.
