COURSE CURRICULUM
The Quantitative Research Methods module (15 credits) aims to provide students with essential skills and knowledge in quantitative research methods in psychology. The focus is on understanding the relationship between research questions, design, and appropriate statistical analyses. It prepares students for conducting research at the master's level and critically evaluating published quantitative research, particularly for their dissertation work. The Open Science module (15 credits) addresses the growing movement in psychology and science to increase openness and transparency throughout the research process. Students will familiarize themselves with the debates surrounding the "reproducibility crisis" and learn to navigate rapidly evolving tools supporting open science practices. The Fundamentals of Neuropsychology module (15 credits) introduces students to advanced neuropsychology, focusing on cognitive neuropsychology. The module covers topics such as memory, language processing, and visual-perceptual disorders, encouraging critical reflection on controversies within the field. In Neuropathology (15 credits), students review their understanding of neurological conditions, including the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of various neurological diseases, and develop the ability to interpret clinical and neuropathological data. The Specialised Techniques in Clinical Neurophysiology module (15 credits) emphasizes practical knowledge in neurophysiology techniques, such as evoked potentials, nerve conduction, and EMG, with a focus on interpreting diagnostic information in clinical and surgical environments. Developmental Neuroscience (15 credits) explores how brain and behavior develop, drawing on research from physiological and cognitive neuroscience, examining cognitive processes such as memory, language, sensory processing, and emotion at different life stages. The Practical Cognitive Neuroscience module (30 credits) introduces students to advanced cognitive neuroscience techniques like EEG, TMS, fMRI, and TES. It combines theoretical learning with hands-on practice to teach students how to operate equipment, analyze data, and understand the methods' limitations. Finally, Research: Practice and Reporting (60 credits) provides students with an opportunity for an advanced study in a specific area of applied psychology, culminating in the presentation of their research in the form of a written journal article.
