COURSE CURRICULUM
The Quantitative Research Methods module (15 credits) equips students with core skills and knowledge in quantitative research methods in psychology. The focus is on understanding how research questions relate to research design and appropriate analyses. It covers a range of advanced statistical analyses, preparing students to conduct psychological research at the master's level and critically evaluate published quantitative research. This module also supports dissertation preparation by enabling students to select suitable methodologies and analyses for their research. The Research: Practice and Reporting module (60 credits) provides students with an opportunity for independent study in a specific area of applied psychology. Students apply empirical research principles and present their findings in a written journal article. The Trauma Impacts and Interventions module (30 credits) explores psychological trauma and its effects, focusing on different groups and stages of the lifespan. It critically examines intervention models for psychological trauma and explores debates around ameliorating factors and developmental outcomes. The Clinical Health Psychology module (30 credits) introduces students to behavior change and chronic health conditions, emphasizing the application of health psychology theory to practice. This module helps students develop personal and professional skills for working in health psychology settings, including the option for placement experience. The Counselling and Psychotherapy in Applied Psychology module (30 credits) provides an introduction to the main schools of psychological therapy and the basic principles of communication skills in therapy. It helps students understand the role of counseling and therapy in applied psychology. The Qualitative Research Methods module (15 credits) introduces students to qualitative methodologies and techniques for generating and analyzing in-depth data. It equips students with the skills needed for qualitative research, helping them prepare for their dissertation or doctoral-level research projects.
