COURSE CURRICULUM

This course offers students a comprehensive understanding of bioanalytical techniques, clinical disorders, biochemical processes, and research methodologies in biomedical science. The Advanced Bioanalytical Techniques module provides students with an in-depth exploration of bioanalytical methods used in biomedical research, focusing on the analysis of disease biomarkers, instrumentation, safety, and data interpretation. The Bioanalysis and Toxicology module delves into the ethical and legal challenges surrounding professional practice and research, especially regarding human and animal subjects, reproductive technology, and genetic research. The Biomedical Ethics and Law module extends this focus by examining ethical issues in genetic technology, including genetic testing and engineering, and the relevant UK regulations. The Clinical Disorders module explores the diagnosis and management of major organ function disorders and malignancies, giving students practical experience with laboratory methods for diagnosis and patient result interpretation. The Developmental Biochemistry module looks at biochemical processes in pregnancy, neonatal screening programs, and the diagnosis of metabolic disorders in children, providing hands-on experience with assays for maternal and child health assessment. The Endocrinology and Metabolism module covers the physiology and pathophysiology of the endocrine system and disorders related to nutrition and metabolism, with a focus on biochemical testing for diagnosis and treatment. The Experimental Design and Statistics module equips students with the necessary skills for effective experimental design and statistical analysis in hypothesis testing. The Leadership and Management module aims to develop students' leadership skills, helping them drive positive change within teams and organizations. Finally, the Research Project allows students to plan and execute a laboratory-based study, applying their acquired knowledge while enhancing their communication skills in presenting research findings in both written and oral formats.
