COURSE CURRICULUM

The program offers a progressive exploration of interior design and architecture, with modules designed to advance both practical and theoretical understanding. "Explore: Scale and Place" introduces students to the intricacies of designing within various scales, from the intimacy of objects and furniture to the broader urban context. It encourages students to reflect on how design impacts human perception and experience, focusing on London’s diverse urban landscape with a global perspective. "Encounter: Contexts and Debate" fosters interdisciplinary discussions and critical debates around contemporary creative and cultural practices in interior design, architecture, and design theory. This module enhances students’ reflective approach to design practice at an advanced level. "Develop: Personal Practice" allows students to further refine their design thinking, encouraging them to create a personal design language that draws on previous learning and research. Through the creation of a Design Development Journal, students define the connection between their chosen place of study, context, and users. "Advance: Thinking and Writing" builds upon the research and reflective practices developed in earlier modules, requiring students to establish a coherent body of work that reflects their individual vision and contributes to the discourse in interior design. Finally, "Realise: Independent Research and Design" provides an opportunity for students to synthesize their learning into a major independent project. This culminating module involves the creation of a Final Publication, which presents a detailed, rigorously researched design proposal, drawing on methodologies developed throughout the program. Together, these modules offer a comprehensive path for students to develop a sophisticated understanding of design practice and research in interior design and architecture.
