COURSE CURRICULUM
The Global Governance for Sustainable Development module (20 credits) equips students with the skills and knowledge to understand and critically evaluate sustainable development in the context of global governance. Starting with the global blueprint of Agenda 21, it explores collaborations among state and non-state actors in addressing global issues like food security, climate change mitigation, and healthy cities. Students will examine emerging theories on governance, power, and evidence and critically engage with institutional frameworks for sustainable development. In the Politics of Globalisation module (20 credits), students explore the implications of globalization on international relations, focusing on the political, economic, and cultural processes at play. The module encourages critical analysis of international organizations, transnational politics, and global issues, while exploring theoretical debates surrounding these topics. The goal is to develop students' leadership skills, teamwork, and their ability to formulate coherent arguments and debates within a diverse, international context. The Research and Practice Skills module (20 credits) prepares students for independent research or work-based learning projects. Students will engage with research methodologies and employability skills through lectures, workshops, and online exercises. This module supports students in producing a research proposal, or a critical review of an organization's work, forming a foundation for a dissertation or project report in subsequent modules. The Sustainable Development and Human Rights module (20 credits) critically explores international human rights frameworks and their relationship with sustainable development. It examines the interaction between human rights and development, focusing on marginalized groups like indigenous peoples, the caste system, and gender inequality. The module questions whether current legal approaches to human rights are adequate to address the challenges of achieving sustainable development for these groups.
