COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Animation offers a comprehensive curriculum that blends creative storytelling, technical expertise, and professional development to prepare students for careers in the animation industry. Students begin with modules such as storytelling and worldbuilding, which help them develop engaging narratives, alongside creative practice and artificial intelligence to explore the role of emerging technologies in animation. Business skills for creative practice are also included to support career management and industry readiness. Core modules such as exploring animation practice, advanced character animation, and representing reality through documentary animation enable students to build strong technical and creative foundations. The program also includes model making, which focuses on fabrication and realisation, allowing students to experiment with physical and digital forms of animation. Optional modules such as post-production mixing and sound design and directing for drama provide opportunities to specialise further. Students also undertake major project pre-production, which prepares them for the final stage of the course. The program culminates in a major project, where students create a substantial piece of work that showcases their skills and creative vision. Work experience opportunities further enhance practical learning, preparing graduates for diverse roles in animation and related creative industries.
