COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work program provides a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of social work practice. The "Readiness for Direct Practice" module equips students with essential skills and knowledge, including communication, professionalism, and self-awareness, to prepare for their first practice placement. "Social Work Theory" enhances students' understanding of key social work theories, such as systems theory and attachment perspectives, to guide interventions. In the "Social Work Law" module, students learn about crucial legislation and its application in both adult and child social work contexts. "Contemporary Issues in Social Work" explores the ethical, legal, and value debates impacting practice, particularly in areas like adult and child safeguarding."Understanding the Life Course" offers a holistic view of development from birth to end-of-life care, covering topics such as child development, mental health, disability, and aging. The "Social Work Research" module helps students critically examine advanced practice concepts and apply research skills to advance their practice. Students then gain hands-on experience in the "First Professional Practice Placement" by completing 70 days of practice in an approved setting, with support from Practice Educators to meet professional standards. The "Final Professional Practice Placement" builds on this, offering 100 days in a more complex setting, allowing students to undertake statutory social work tasks under supervision.Finally, the "Dissertation" module allows students to conduct independent research relevant to social work practice, with academic supervision to support the research process and writing. This program ensures that students are well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience to excel in the social work field.
