COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, you'll be introduced to psychology, covering foundational concepts in various areas. The Changing the World with Psychology module will explore how psychological research contributes to global challenges, particularly in relation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. You'll gain an understanding of how psychology intersects with fields like health, technology, environmental science, and the arts, while also developing ethical reasoning and problem-solving skills. The Psychological Science: From Biology to Individual Variation module introduces you to key areas of psychology, including cognitive and biological psychology, encouraging a critical and reflective perspective. In the Psychological Science: From Individuals to Society module, you'll examine mental health, developmental psychology, and social psychology, challenging traditional approaches and exploring diverse theories. The Psychologist's Toolkit module will introduce essential research skills, focusing on both qualitative and quantitative methods. You'll gain hands-on experience with data analysis and research design, preparing you for future work in psychology. In Year 2, the focus shifts to in-depth studies in biological, developmental, cognitive, and social psychology. The Brain, Body, and Mind module will provide an overview of biological and cognitive psychology, exploring the nervous system's role in behavior. The Psychology Alive module combines various psychological disciplines to understand human functioning in the modern world, while Social and Developmental Psychology delves into the psychological changes that occur throughout life. Advanced research techniques are covered in The Psychologist's Toolkit, focusing on both quantitative and qualitative methods. In Year 3, you'll choose advanced topics such as neuropsychology or therapeutic psychology and work on an independent research project, culminating in the Psychology Dissertation, where you'll apply your research skills to a topic of your choice, contributing to your future career in psychology.
