COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the focus is on building foundational knowledge and skills for children and young people's (CYP) nursing. The "Foundations of CYP Nursing Knowledge" module develops the role of the graduate CYP nurse in health and illness, introducing basic nursing assessments and interventions to support physical and mental health across the lifespan. The "Foundations of Expansive Learning for Professional Nursing Practice" module enhances self-awareness and promotes reflective activities, helping you develop the necessary professional attitude, skills, and knowledge. The "Foundations of Scientific Principles for Child Nursing" module provides an introduction to scientific principles that underpin nursing practice, covering biopsychosocial and behavioral sciences. In "Practice Learning 1 CYP," you will apply your knowledge in real-world settings, developing fundamental nursing skills for the care of children and young people.In Year 2, you will deepen your nursing knowledge and practice. The "Developing Nursing Knowledge in CYP Nursing" module focuses on person-centered, evidence-based care, addressing physical, cognitive, mental, and social health needs during illness. The "Developing Expansive Learning for Professional Nursing Practice" module helps you build professional leadership knowledge and self-awareness through critical reflection and evaluation of your learning. "Developing Scientific Principles for CYP Nursing" expands on Year 1's scientific principles, delving deeper into pathophysiology and the role of genetics in disease etiology. "Practice Learning 2 CYP Nursing" allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in more complex care situations, showing increasing independence while adhering to the NMC Code.In Year 3, you will consolidate your expertise and prepare for employment. The "Consolidating Nursing Knowledge in CYP Nursing" module enables you to engage with complex care coordination for children and young people with life-threatening or long-term health conditions. You will apply nursing knowledge, research, and evidence in planning and managing care. The "Consolidating Scientific Principles for CYP Nursing" module builds on your previous scientific knowledge, focusing on pathophysiology and preparing you for future prescribing practice. "Consolidation of Expansive Learning for Professional Practice" develops your leadership and management skills, helping you become an accountable and emotionally intelligent nurse. In "Practice Learning 3 CYP Nursing," you will demonstrate advanced clinical skills and leadership, working autonomously in child health practice while delivering high standards of care in line with the NMC Code.
