COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, you will be introduced to essential concepts and foundational knowledge in biomedical science. The Laboratory and Professional Skills module prepares you for the biomedical profession by focusing on lab techniques, safety practices, and communication skills, while emphasizing teamwork and self-reflection for professional development. The Cell Sciences and Genetics module explores the structure and function of cells, genetics, and viruses, helping you understand molecular processes related to physiology, growth, and disease. The Fundamental Neuroscience module provides key knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system. The Psychological Science module introduces various approaches in psychology, examining topics like cognitive and biological psychology, with an emphasis on individual variation and future employability.In Year 2, you will deepen your understanding of biological psychology and neuropharmacology. The Brain, Body and Mind module covers the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system and its relationship to cognition, along with individual differences in biology. Neuropharmacology explores the effects of therapeutic and recreational drugs on the nervous system, while the Neurophysiology module teaches neurophysiological techniques and their application to pathophysiology. The Research Methods and Science Innovation module equips you with research skills needed to design and implement scientific studies, preparing you for your final-year project.In Year 3, you will consolidate your learning with the Dissertation module, where you will conduct independent research on a topic of your choice, supported by an academic supervisor. Clinical Neurology builds on previous learning, deepening your understanding of neurology and neurological disorders, while Neuroanatomy and Pathology focuses on electroencephalography (EEG) and its role in investigating neurological conditions. These modules provide comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in neurology, research, and pathology, preparing you for professional work in the field of biomedical science.
