COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the midwifery program, you will focus on building a foundational understanding of antenatal, postnatal, and midwifery care. Modules such as Foundations of Antenatal and Postnatal Care and Foundations of Midwifery Care in Labour and Birth introduce the physiological changes during pregnancy and birth, and equip you with the basic skills for providing supervised care to women in various settings. The Introduction to Being and Becoming a Midwife module helps you transition into the midwifery role, enhancing your study skills and professional behaviors, while preparing you for clinical practice under supervision. The Introduction to Fetal and Neonatal Care module focuses on the examination and care of newborns in their first weeks, including performing initial and daily assessments. In Year 2, the program shifts focus to more complex cases. Developing Knowledge of Antenatal and Postnatal Care in Complex Situations and Developing Care in Labour and Birth for Women in Complex Situations delve into providing care for women with more intricate needs, including complications during pregnancy and labour. Developing Being and Becoming a Midwife enhances your practical skills, care planning, decision-making, and evidence-based practice. In Developing Knowledge of Fetal and Neonatal Care in Complex Situations, you learn to recognize abnormalities and prepare for specialized neonatal care. The final year consolidates your knowledge and skills in Consolidating Antenatal and Postnatal Care, Consolidating Midwifery Care During Labour and Birth, and Being and Becoming a Midwife. These modules prepare you for independent practice, focusing on obstetric emergencies, autonomy, team collaboration, and continuing professional development. By the end of the program, you will be equipped with the necessary expertise to work safely and effectively as a midwife.
