COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology with Psychology BSc is designed to provide a progressive and integrated understanding of crime, justice, and psychological processes across three years of study. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation by exploring psychological science from individual behaviour to wider social influences, alongside core criminology modules that examine crime in its social context, contemporary responses to crime, and methods for researching crimes and communities. This year develops essential theoretical knowledge and introductory research skills. In Year 2, learning advances through compulsory modules in contemporary issues in psychology, research methods for studying contemporary society, and critical perspectives on crime and justice. Students can also personalise their degree by choosing optional modules such as victimology, courts, prisons and rehabilitation, or race and social justice, allowing deeper exploration of specific interests. In Year 3, students focus on independent and applied learning, choosing between a dissertation or a learning-at-work module to gain either advanced research experience or practical workplace skills. A wide range of optional modules enables specialisation in areas such as forensic psychology, drugs and crime, cybercrime and radicalisation, organised and powerful crimes, or violent crime. Overall, the course combines criminology and psychology with strong research training and flexibility, preparing graduates for diverse careers in criminal justice, research, psychology-related fields, and social services.
