COURSE CURRICULUM

The program spans three years, focusing on essential aspects of biomedical science, with practical and theoretical modules each year.In Year 1, students cover foundational modules such as Laboratory and Professional Skills, focusing on laboratory practices and professional development, and Human Sciences, which teaches anatomy and physiology with a focus on homeostasis. Other compulsory modules include Cell Sciences and Genetics, which explores cellular functions and genetics, and Biomolecular Science, which combines biology and chemistry to study biomolecules and their roles in metabolism.Year 2 delves deeper into specialized topics such as Molecular Biology and Clinical Genetics, focusing on diagnostic techniques and bioinformatics tools for disease investigation. Students also study Clinical Sciences and Clinical Biochemistry, learning about diseases and diagnostic methods, and Immunology and Infection Science, which covers immune responses and infectious agents. Additionally, Haematology and Blood Transfusion provides insight into blood disorders and transfusion science.Year 3 is centered around more advanced modules, including Clinical Immunology and Medical Microbiology, which addresses immune dysregulation, pathogenicity, and antimicrobial resistance, and Research Methods and Science Innovation, which develops research and analytical skills. Molecular & Cellular Pathology focuses on cellular and molecular pathology techniques, and the Dissertation and Professional Development module enables students to undertake individual research projects. A year-long placement can also be undertaken after Year 2 or Year 3, providing practical experience in the field.This curriculum provides comprehensive knowledge and skills in biomedical science, preparing students for careers in medical laboratories, research, and clinical settings.
