COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the course, students focus on developing essential knowledge in environmental health and the scientific principles that underpin it. Key modules include Foundations of Environmental Science, which introduces students to the scientific principles of environmental health and the mathematical concepts used to assess chemicals and physical agents. The Environmental and Public Health Stressors module explores how physical, chemical, biological, social, and psychological stressors impact human health and the environment, while the Introduction to Law and Health Protection module covers governance, legal systems, and strategies to improve population health. The Sciences of Environmental and Public Health module provides students with knowledge of disease vectors and human anatomy, incorporating practical exercises to enhance understanding.Year 2 continues to build on this foundation, with a focus on key areas such as food safety, housing, and environmental protection. The Food and Safety Control module covers the legal, technical, and managerial aspects of food safety, while Housing Standards and Interventions addresses the impact of housing on health and explores strategies to ensure healthier living environments. The Environmental Protection module highlights the role of global sustainability and the impact of pollution. Research Methods and Science Innovation prepares students for their final-year project by developing skills in scientific research design and project management.In Year 3, students focus on professional competence and effective public health interventions. The Interventions in Occupational Health and Safety module provides an in-depth understanding of risks in the workplace and methods for mitigating them. The Dissertation module allows students to choose a topic of interest and apply research skills. The Food Inspection, Food Standards, and Fraud module prepares students for professional examinations and includes practical learning to identify food safety issues. Preparing for Professional Practice equips students with employability skills and prepares them for professional practice in environmental or public health. The Communications and Public Health Interventions module focuses on the design and implementation of health interventions, emphasizing cultural competence and empathy.
