COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cyber Security and Digital Forensics BSc is structured to progressively develop technical expertise, practical skills, and professional awareness across three years of study. In Year 1, students gain a strong foundation in computing through modules covering computer systems architecture and operating systems, programming for data communication and networks, computer networks, and the management of information within organisations. This year focuses on understanding how systems, data, and networks function in real-world environments. In Year 2, learning becomes more specialised and applied, with compulsory modules in the Internet of Things, secure web technologies, and digital incident scene investigation and analysis, allowing students to develop skills in identifying, analysing, and responding to cyber incidents. Project management and professional practice further prepare students for teamwork, ethical responsibilities, and industry expectations. In Year 3, students advance their technical and investigative capabilities through compulsory modules in computer security and ethical hacking, memory analysis, and an individual project that demonstrates independent problem-solving and research skills. Students also have the opportunity to deepen their expertise through optional study in defensive security or blockchain engineering and analytics. Advanced topics in data science and artificial intelligence ensure graduates are equipped with contemporary skills relevant to modern cybersecurity challenges. Overall, the course provides a comprehensive and career-focused education aligned with current and emerging industry needs.
