COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science BSc at Middlesex is structured over three years to develop both foundational knowledge and advanced technical skills in computing, software development, and data-driven technologies. In the first year, students establish a strong grounding in programming, application design and development, computing fundamentals, and computer systems and architecture, providing the essential skills required for further study and professional practice. The second year builds on this foundation with compulsory modules in object-oriented programming, operating systems and computer networks, software engineering management and development, and web applications and databases, allowing students to develop technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and practical experience in building and managing software systems. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics in data science and artificial intelligence and complete an individual undergraduate project, demonstrating their ability to apply knowledge independently to solve complex computing problems. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise and gain additional expertise in areas such as artificial intelligence, business intelligence, full stack development, testing and verification, and user design experience. This progressive structure ensures students acquire a balance of theoretical understanding, practical skills, and applied experience, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in software development, data science, AI, cybersecurity, systems engineering, and related technology-driven industries.
