COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Systems Engineering BEng Honours program at Middlesex is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of both fundamental and applied engineering principles, combined with practical experience. In the first year, students develop essential technical skills through compulsory modules in mathematics for engineers, electronic engineering principles and applications, physical computing and programming, and engineering projects. These modules establish a strong foundation in engineering theory while providing opportunities to apply knowledge in hands-on projects, fostering problem-solving, analytical, and programming abilities. The second year builds on this foundation, focusing on core engineering specialisms through compulsory study in digital system design, signal processing and communications, design and engineering in context, and software development for engineering. These modules emphasise system design, analysis, and the integration of hardware and software solutions, preparing students for advanced engineering challenges. The program also offers a work placement in the third year, allowing students to gain real-world professional experience in a paid or industry-based setting, enhancing practical skills and employability. This structured approach ensures graduates develop a combination of theoretical knowledge, technical expertise, and practical experience, equipping them for careers in systems engineering, embedded systems, communications, software development, and related technology-driven sectors.
