COURSE CURRICULUM

In your first year, you will focus on developing foundational skills for your social work career. You will engage in a Community Project, which connects sociological theories, social policy, community action, and social work practice. The Lifecourse Development module will involve a child observation task, helping you connect human development theories, diversity, and social work practice. Preparation for Professional Practice modules will focus on communication skills and foundational knowledge needed for social work, including the organizational structure of social work, law, and service users' perspectives.In your second year, you will build on the knowledge gained in year one by developing new research skills, deepening your understanding of social work legislation, and applying theories to practice. You will undertake your first 70-day professional placement, where you will begin to put your theoretical learning into practice under the supervision of professionals. The Law for Social Workers module will teach you essential legislation for working with children, families, and adults. In Social Work Theories, Interventions, and Practice, you will further develop your ability to apply social work theories and interventions in an ethical and thoughtful way.In the final year, you will complete your second 100-day placement in a statutory social work setting. This placement will be crucial for consolidating the knowledge and skills you've developed throughout your degree. You will also undertake a research project in your chosen area of practice, allowing you to apply research skills to real-world social work issues. The Social Work Knowledge: Application and Critique module will prepare you to lead social work interventions and apply your learning in a range of contexts, ensuring you are ready to qualify as a Social Worker by the end of the program.
