COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, you will build foundational knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and begin to explore teacher identity. Through modules such as Becoming a Teacher, Creativity in the Primary Curriculum, and Introducing the Primary Curriculum, you will learn about core and foundation subjects, creative teaching methods, and the importance of inclusive and culturally responsive education. You will also gain your first school experience to observe and engage with effective teaching, learning, and assessment. The Teaching the Primary Curriculum module introduces subject pedagogy, allowing you to start applying your knowledge in practical teaching contexts. In Year 2, you will deepen your subject knowledge and develop reflective perspectives on teacher identity. Modules such as Creativity through Story, Inclusive Practices: SEND, Physical and Mental Health, and Investigative Learning through Cross Curricular Approaches will strengthen your teaching strategies, focusing on subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, and Religious Education. You will also explore inclusive teaching practices, particularly for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Primary Professional Practice One gives you further opportunities to apply your learning in a primary school setting.Year 3 consolidates your learning and extends your understanding of dialogic approaches to teaching and learning. Modules such as Inclusive Practices: Beyond the Classroom, Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching across Curriculum, and Primary Curriculum and Dialogic Pedagogies encourage critical engagement with current research and focus on the practical application of inclusive practices and interdisciplinary teaching. Primary Professional Practice Two provides your final school placement, allowing you to demonstrate your progress toward meeting professional standards and reflective practice as a primary teacher.
