COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, you will establish foundational knowledge in design thinking, spatial principles, and the social and cultural contexts of interior spaces. The Design Thinking and Communication module introduces you to design ideation, where you will learn to interpret design histories and apply both analogue and digital skills. Studio: Spatial Design allows you to explore key spatial principles of interior architecture, helping you develop a design vocabulary and understand scale, proportion, and spatial arrangement. In Studio: Exploring People and Place, you will delve into the cultural and contextual aspects of interior spaces, exploring how people interact with and inhabit environments. You will also develop your ability to reflect on and apply research to design thinking. Studio: Designing for People and Place builds upon this by emphasizing the impact of spatial design on human inhabitation, and you will learn to evaluate spatial interventions and develop interdisciplinary design proposals.In the second year, you will deepen your understanding of commercial interior design and sustainable practices. Interior Design Studio: Explore Commercial Interiors introduces you to the principles and challenges of designing commercial spaces. You will apply research and analysis to understand market trends and provide innovative design solutions. Interior Design Studio: Design Commercial Interiors focuses on the design and communication of commercial spaces, where you will explore the operational and functional aspects of your designs. Interior Design: Context & Construction explores the historical, cultural, and socio-economic contexts of interior design, along with the materials and technologies that shape interior spaces. Interior Design Studio: Experiential Interiors challenges you to apply your skills to test how people sense and navigate interior environments, working within existing buildings to address real-world design issues.In the final year, you will focus on advanced research and sustainable design solutions. Interior Design: Research for Design introduces research methods that will help you synthesize knowledge and critical analysis of interior design. Interior Design Studio: Branded Environments enables you to work on a real-world commercial project, where you will focus on brand identity, sustainability, and the public interface. Interior Design Studio: Explore Sustainable Futures requires you to design a large-scale, complex project with a focus on sustainability. The final module, Interior Design Studio: Design Sustainable Futures, consolidates all your learning, where you will repurpose an existing multi-storey building to ensure its long-term sustainability.
