In your first year, you will be introduced to a range of creative and technical practices that will help develop your skills as an illustrator. The Communication Skills module will build your ability to create and direct impactful content across various communication channels, using both digital and traditional tools. Through Creative Media and Cultures, you will explore the role of design, illustration, and media in contemporary society while developing critical thinking and independent research skills. Creative Workshops will expose you to different design disciplines like digital design, photography, life drawing, and video editing, helping you hone practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of design processes. The Innovative Projects module encourages creative confidence by pushing you to generate unique ideas and tackle diverse communication challenges through exploration and experimentation.In your second year, you will deepen your practice in illustration and explore professional levels of self-authorship. The Illustration Narrative and Self-authorship module will focus on developing your personal practice, exploring narrative techniques, and preparing you for external competitions. Illustration Practice and Research will help you critically engage with historical and contemporary practices in illustration while developing your visual language. Through Illustration Projects, you will experiment with different techniques such as printmaking, moving image, and digital formats, while considering contemporary issues like gender equality and climate action. The Illustration Skills and Context module will broaden your understanding of global illustration practices and help you refine your creative processes for professional practice.In your final year, you will focus on preparing for professional practice and building a strong portfolio. The Developing a Visual Identity module will help you reflect critically on your work and refine your practice by investigating strategies for creating professional project proposals. The Illustration Portfolio module will support you in creating a creative industry-standard portfolio, showcasing your personal visual language and professional development. The Professional Development and Research in Context module will help you conduct primary research and apply it to your practice, preparing you for the creative industry. Finally, the Professional Practice and Independent Research Projects: Curatorial Proposal module will guide you in creating an online portfolio, developing a research project, and addressing sustainability issues within the industry, ensuring you're ready for professional work and further study.
