COURSE CURRICULUM

In the three-year Education Studies program, students are introduced to critical educational theories and policies, focusing on areas like Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, and Law. Year 1 provides foundational learning through modules on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Historical and Contemporary Issues in Education, Literacy and Language Development, and Psychological Approaches to Learning. These modules emphasize reflective thinking, critical analysis, and understanding educational policies, aiming to develop academic skills and an awareness of the role of inclusivity in education.In Year 2, students engage with more personalized and applied learning. Modules such as Curriculum Studies: Primary Education, Developing Professional Practice in Educational Settings, and Education for Social Justice delve into primary education, professional development, and social justice in education. The year includes a placement, allowing students to gain practical experience tailored to their career goals. Additionally, the Researching Lives module helps students develop research skills, preparing them for their dissertation in the final year.Year 3 is centered on independent research and professional growth. Students complete an Independent Research Project and a Dissertation, applying research methods learned earlier to study contemporary educational issues. The Childhood, Youth, and Families in Context module allows students to explore policies affecting these groups and reflect on personal academic and professional journeys. The program emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, and the ability to apply knowledge to real-world educational contexts, preparing graduates for a career in education or further academic pursuits.
