COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Sports Engineering at Loughborough University is structured to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in both the technical and applied aspects of sports equipment design and innovation. In the first semester, students develop core skills in machine learning, measurement and data analytics, and research methods, alongside gaining an understanding of the broader sports industry and professional skills for employability. These modules equip students with the analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities necessary for modern sports engineering challenges. A major component of the program is the individual MSc project, which allows students to apply their learning to a practical research or design problem, fostering critical thinking and hands-on experience. In the second semester, the focus shifts to advanced topics including robotic applications in sport and healthcare, product design engineering, and sustainable product design, emphasizing the importance of innovation and sustainability in contemporary sports engineering. Students continue to enhance their professional skills while progressing with their individual project, ensuring they integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application. The program combines academic rigour with real-world relevance, preparing graduates for careers in sports engineering, product innovation, applied research, and related industries, and equipping them to address the evolving technological and commercial demands of the global sports sector.
