COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Pharmaceutical Science and Medicinal Chemistry program offers a well-structured curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with practical training in advanced pharmaceutical and chemical sciences. In the first semester, students develop essential research skills through the Research Methods module and gain a strong foundation in Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism as well as Drug Targets, Drug Design and Drug Synthesis. These core areas equip students with the ability to understand drug action, design effective therapeutic agents, and evaluate metabolic pathways. Alongside compulsory modules, students can tailor their learning by selecting from specialist options such as Separation Techniques, Mass Spectrometry and Associated Techniques, or Biomedical Analytical Technologies, providing expertise in modern analytical methods critical to pharmaceutical development. In the second semester, the focus shifts to advanced techniques in Spectroscopy and Structural Analysis, enabling students to master the use of powerful tools for characterising molecular structures. A major component of the program is the Professional Skills and Dissertation module, which allows students to integrate their learning, enhance transferable skills, and carry out a substantial independent research project. Optional modules such as Innovations in Medicinal Chemistry provide further opportunities to explore cutting-edge developments in drug discovery, ensuring graduates are well prepared for careers in research and industry.
