COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Musculoskeletal Sport Science and Health provides a structured curriculum combining advanced scientific knowledge with practical research skills in sport, exercise, and musculoskeletal health. In Semester 1, students focus on developing methodological expertise through Quantitative Research while engaging with applied modules such as Orthopaedic Sport Biomechanics, which examines movement and injury mechanics, and Para Sport – Rehabilitation to Performance, which explores rehabilitation and performance enhancement in adaptive sport. A key feature of this semester is the Laboratory and Field-based Measurement of Human Movement, a 30-credit module that equips students with hands-on skills in analysing human motion using both laboratory technologies and field-based techniques. In Semester 2, the program advances into specialist areas, beginning with Basic Science and Regenerative Therapy, which considers biological approaches to healing and musculoskeletal repair. The Risks of, and Recovery from, Sports and Musculoskeletal Injury – A focuses on injury mechanisms, risk factors, and recovery strategies, while Neuromuscular Function examines the role of the nervous system in movement, performance, and rehabilitation. Alongside these taught modules, students undertake a substantial independent Research Project in Sport, Health and Rehabilitation worth 60 credits, enabling them to explore an area of personal interest in depth and apply their learning to real-world issues.
