COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Pharmaceutical Science program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of pharmaceutical and analytical chemistry, preparing them for careers in drug development, research, and industry. In the first semester, students develop essential research skills alongside core knowledge in separation techniques and the study of pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism, which are critical for understanding how drugs interact with biological systems. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to their interests, covering areas such as mass spectrometry, drug targets, drug design and synthesis, and biomedical analytical technologies. These modules provide practical skills and a deeper insight into advanced techniques used in modern pharmaceutical research. In the second semester, students build on their core expertise with spectroscopy and structural analysis, gaining the ability to identify and characterise chemical compounds essential in drug development. Professional skills training is integrated with the dissertation, enabling students to conduct a substantial independent research project that reflects real-world industry or academic practice. Additional optional modules, including innovations in analytical science and medicinal chemistry, allow students to explore cutting-edge developments in the field.
